Wreck claims third Vernon College student
A fatal wreck north of Haskell involving the Vernon College rodeo team claimed a third student early Sunday morning, a week after the March 18 crash that killed two other team members.
Jakob Plummer, 20, of Petrolia, died Sunday from injuries he sustained in the wreck. Teammate Yancie Wade McCuistion, 19, of Sugar City, Colo., died at the scene, about a half mile north of Haskell on U.S. 277, and Vinita Jean Trevino, 19, a VC student from Petrolia, died a day later, March 19.
Another teammate, Drew Davis Hill, 20, of Canadian, Texas, remained in the Haskell Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. His condition Sunday was unknown.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety: The crash occurred at the intersection of U.S. 277 and U.S. 277 Business, where a 1997 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, driven by McCuistoin, disregarded a stop sign and encountered a motor home driven by Michael Lea Moynihan, 73, of San Angelo. Moynihan was transported to Haskell Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. His condition Sunday was unknown.
