Carrie cancels performance at the 2006 Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo!

A proud vegetarian, Grammy-award winner, Country Music Association's Female Vocalist of the Year 2006, and American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood has proven her heart is as big as her talent. Carrie wore a "V Is for Vegetarian" T-shirt during a performance on American Idol, and was voted "World's Sexiest Vegetarian" two years in-a-row in 2005 and 2006. Growing up on a farm in a small town in Oklahoma showed Carrie that she'd rather sing to cows than eat them.

In an interview with Reader's Digest, Carrie said,

"I don't think enough people stand up for animals. My heart goes out to them because, to me, every single animal has a heart and a mind and a soul."

We at SHARK agree with Carrie Underwood, so we were surprised and appalled when it was discovered just weeks before the show that Carrie was slated to perform at the infamously abusive Cheyenne Frontier Days (CFD).

The blatant cruelty at rodeos has turned-off so much of the public, that rodeos can no longer survive on audience attendance alone. That is why these abuse contests recruit famous names to bring in people to their events. Without the help of big-name entertainers and corporate sponsors, rodeo would be dead...instead of the steers, calves, and horses.

Compassionate fans of Carrie believed she was lending her support to the CFD rodeo because she simply didn't realize the cruel reality of this industry. SHARK immediately made every effort to contact Ms. Underwood and sent her video of all-too-common rodeo horrors. Soon thereafter, a press release from the CFD rodeo stated:

"American Idol Star Josh Gracin will take the stage with Phil Vassar replacing Carrie Underwood who is unable to perform at Cheyenne Frontier Days for personal reasons."

Carrie's fans can continue to be proud of her spirit, strength, and compassion. Unlike Hilary Duff, Carrie Underwood chose to follow her moral compass by pulling support away from the people who profit by abusing animals.

Please take a moment to thank Carrie for standing with the animals instead of the abusers!
