SALINAS, Calif. —For the last two decades, animal activist Steve Hindi has attended rodeos across the country.
"It’s being sold as America’s sport, family entertainment. Rodeos are cruel and the animals are literally dying to entertain you," Hindi said.
He goes armed with video and still cameras, recording incidents he says are clear cases of animal cruelty and abuse. "We can tell people that rodeos are cruel, but I prefer that we just show them our documentation and people can decide for themselves."
His videos are on YouTube and they’ve garnered a lot of attention -- both good and bad. Hindi focuses on animal injuries and the use of electric prods. Prods are typically handheld and deliver between 5,000 and 6,000 volts.
