Pigeon Shoots are Pennsylvania's Shame

FacebookTwitterRedditYoutube

Whenever legislation to ban shoots is introduced in Pennsylvania, the NRA's lobbyist, John Hohenwarter, sweeps down upon Harrisburg.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley protected a pigeon shoot at the Broxton Bridge Plantation, that SHARK video-documented, by not prosecuting them under South Carolina's anti-cruelty statute, and allowing pigeon shooters to get away with breaking other laws.

In 2010, the NRA donated $3,500 to the RGA South Carolina 2010 PAC. That PAC heavily supported Haley's gubernatorial campaign, including media buys and paying for a hotel room for Nikki Haley's staff.

Live pigeon shoots, where birds are stuffed into small boxes, then launched into a hail of gunfire, are the ultimate form of animal abuse, for they are the mass killing and wounding of living beings simply for the pleasure it brings.

This is what the NRA says about pigeon shooters:

"The participants are law-abiding, ethical shooting enthusiasts, hunters, and sportsmen who would not tolerate an activity that would constitute cruelty to animals."

The following picture was taken in the aftermath of a just one pigeon shoot in Pennsylvania, where hundreds of dead and dying birds were dumped into a pile. As you will see in the videos and pictures on this page, every aspect of these shoots constitutes cruelty to animals.

The truth is that the Second Amendment doesn't protect pigeon shoots, the NRA does.

How is the NRA able to get away with this? Because they use the name and support of its members, the overwhelming majority of whom we believe are appalled at pigeon shoots, as the blunt force to frighten legislators into submission.

SHARK has received a number of emails from NRA members who are disgusted with what their organization is doing. We commend these people and encourage them to stand up and speak out. They are the ones who can effect change within the NRA.

If you are a member of the NRA, please contact the NRA and ask them to stop using your money and name to protect severe animal cruelty.

This is about honor, and doing what is right. It's about standing up to the NRA and calling them out. It's about stopping the sick and horrific mass slaughter of innocent birds.

Defending the rights of gun owners has nothing to do with protecting vile animal cruelty.

SHARK CHALLENGES THE NRA TO A PUBLIC DEBATE ON PIGEON SHOOTS
SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) is openly challenging the National Rifle Association to publicly debate the issue of live pigeon shoots in Pennsylvania. We will do it anytime, anywhere. We'll even live-stream it online so everyone will be able to watch it. Let's see if the NRA has the courage of their convictions on this issue, or if they are really cowards after all.
