Back injury leads to death of bronc at Cheyenne rodeo

A back injury has claimed the life of a horse at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.


Check Mate falling and injuring herself during a rookie saddle bronc event.


The horse, a four-year-old named Check Mate, was hurt during the rookie saddle bronc ride by Luke Morgan, of Weatherford, Texas, on Sunday.

Check Mate was euthanised after her injuries were assessed by a veterinarian.

The organisation, SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK), reacted angrily to the death, and released a video of the incident.
