International Animal Protection Group Targets

Pennsylvania Live Pigeon Shoot, Urges PA

Humane Groups to Protest Against Mass Killings

HAMBURG, PA – An international animal protection group today strongly urged Pennsylvania's humane societies to participate in protests against a mass slaughter of thousands of pigeons at a live pigeon shoot here August 1-3.

In a letter (http://www.sharkonline.org/index.php/pennsylvania-pashame/1469 ) to the Federated Humane Society of Pennsylvania, SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness) President Steve Hindi said this about the Wing Pointe Canned Hunt Club (1414 Moselem Springs Road/Hamburg) :

"Thousands of pigeons will be used as living targets. Hundreds will be wounded but will escape the shoot grounds to die slow, lingering deaths. I strongly encourage the Federation’s leadership and members to attend this slaughter...and demonstrate with your physical presence your absolute commitment to pass bill HB 1750 which would outright ban live pigeon shoots."

Hindi said SHARK will video document the abuse of animals at the shoot and violations of PA Humane Law 5511.

"The pigeon killers’ commitment to cruelty is demonstrated by their presence. They don’t just talk about killing pigeons, they do it. (SHARK's) commitment to compassion is demonstrated by our presence at shoots over and over," said Hindi, adding: "Let’s take all the peaceful and legal action possible to bring Pennsylvania’s shameful pigeon shoots to a long overdue close."
