On July 19, 2013 a young steer was killed at California Rodeo Salinas during a roping event. The steer was trampled by a horse and sustained fatal injuries. Animal protection group, SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) was filming at the event documenting animal abuse. The group has previously condemned the rodeo for it’s treatment of animals specifically for employing stock contractor, Cotton Rosser and the Flying U Rodeo who are notorious for using electro-prods to provoke animals to buck out of the chute.
